‘Sahasak Nimavum,’ is the only program where Sri Lankan inventors can exhibit their inventions and evaluate at the National level. The exhibition is held under four categories such as Schools, Universities, Open and Commercial. The exhibition is first held at the Provincial level. A panel of judges, cover the nine provinces in Sri Lanka by selecting the best inventors from the above categories. The next is the final stage of Sahasak Nimavum which is held in Colombo at the National level. The best inventors are selected from the above four categories.
The exhibition for 2019 was held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) in Colombo on September 20 – 22. This time the exhibition was special as it had expanded to the International level. Prof. Rangika Halwathura presided at the event on September 20 and Hon. Sujeewa Senasinghe (Minister of Science, Technology and Research) was the Chief Guest.
The main purpose of the exhibition was to select outstanding exhibits and send them for international exhibitions. Another purpose of the exhibition was to commercialize the chosen exhibits and help them get patents, subsidies and financial assistance. The exhibition was viewed by the public including, foreigners, corporate heads and school children. The first three from each field were selected and awarded gold, silver and bronze awards. The best exhibit from each category was awarded the ‘Dasis’ trophy.
