Book Competition Winners – September 29, 2019

Tuesday, 1 October 2019

13 – 15 years

Imagine you invented a time machine. Which year would you travel to?
The intention of going back in time or to the future differs according to ones views and likes. Actually, if I invent a time machine, there is a certain year in history that I would really like to travel to. That is the year 1912.
I always had an urge to travel back to this particular year because I would really like to experience the maiden voyage of the most luxurious liner at that time, the RMS Titanic. Although I know that the time I would like to travel to is not quite a merry one, I don’t mind going back and experiencing it all.
In fact, I want to be among the madly cheering crowd aboard the ship on the day of its departure and to spend cheerful and memorable moments with all of them aboard because I feel sorry for most of them as I know that they will soon meet a valley of shadows. It would all be a really wonderful experience that I cannot relate to.
Amidst the fatal accident, I do not mind staying aboard. If 1527 people gave up their lives unwillingly on that day, losing my life is alright because every life has the same value. Though anyone can pray for everyone who met their unlucky fate on that tragic night, it is more preferable for me to be among them and experience what they faced.
So, if I invented a time machine, this is certainly the year I would want to travel to.

Extra Prize

Time machines are known to take people back and forth in time. As no time machine has been invented yet, it still remains an imaginary object.
If I ever invented a time machine, I would like to travel to both the past and the future. But I would most specially like to travel to the past to the year 1939.
Hitler started the Second World War in trying to expand his power and make Germany stronger. But if I had been around in that time I would have openly talked to him out of the idea. For what use is power? It only brings more responsibility and stress (when a dispute arises).
To me Anne Frank is an interesting, honest, straightforward, open, imaginative teenager, always trying to do her best. She was gone by 1945 so if I travel to 1939 I will be able to meet her.
I would also be able to meet Enid Blyton. She might help me with writing my books by teaching me how to write wonderfully like her.
I would also be able to enjoy the experience of living without screens. If I lived in Sri Lanka, I would experience living under the British.
If I invent a time machine, I would travel to the year 1938. Perhaps one day I might and I could return to the present with a lot of new experiences.
