A day at the beach
One day we decided to go to the beach. We packed everything that we need for the beach, things like our swimsuits, my toys, an umbrella and my mother made snacks for us to take to the beach. Then we put everything in our cab and went to the Kinross Beach at Wellawatte in the evening.
When we reached the beach the place was empty. There were only a few people on the beach. My brother and I played on the beach. We made sandcastles with my bucket and spade. My mother and father watched us playing in the sand. The water was so cold. I was shivering when I came out of the water. After playing in the water we had a snack and continued to play till the sunset. We played so much on the beach. We watched the sunset and came home very happily.  Binudhi Jayasekera (Grade 3)

Do you think thunderstorms are scary?
Do you think that I am scared of thunderstorms? Yes, of course, I am afraid of thunderstorms. I have reasons for my fear.
Thunderstorms are harmful to human lives and also to other resources. It can even kill us.
What do you know about thunderstorms? There are tiny water droplets and ice crystals in cumulonimbus clouds. Because of air currents, those water droplets and ice crystals are rubbed together. Thus they become charged. Positive charges are generated on the earth, right below the cloud. When the amount of charge reaches a certain level, an electrical discharge occurs. It is known as a thunderstorm. There are three types of lightning according to the electrical discharge. They are Earth lightning, Cloud lightning and Air lightning.
Earth lightning is an electrical discharge that transfers from the cloud to the earth. Cloud lightning is an electrical discharge that transfers through the cloud or between two clouds. Air lightning is an electrical discharge that transfers from a cloud into the air. When there are thunderstorms, we have to mainly consider about our safety. To safeguard ourselves from thunderstorms we have to avoid being in open places. If there is no place of security, keep your legs close to each other and crouch to the ground. Refrain from being near tall trees and elevated places. Refrain from riding or driving open vehicles like cycles and tractors. Refrain from swimming, canoeing and walking on wet places.
I think now you know the reason for my fear about thunderstorms.
